"If you like a close-knit learning community where your professor knows your name, then Cazenovia College is the place for you."
Choosing Cazenovia College was easy for Jacob "Jake" Bitz; he was struck by the friendliness of the campus on his first visit. "When I came to visit the College as a senior in high school, I stepped out of the car and walked around the quad and heard people laughing, cracking jokes, and hanging out with their friends. After seeing that, I knew that Caz would be the place for me."
It was the same open congeniality that met him on Move-In Day. When he pulled his car to the curb to off-load, several upperclassmen volunteers immediately took two heavy bags up to his dorm room. Bitz adds, "One of my first encounters here was meeting some of my best friends today. I currently live in an apartment with the guys I met on the first day!"
On the academic side of Bitz's time at Cazenovia, he also experienced the same small-college feeling, finding the professors accessible and welcoming. "If you like a close-knit learning community where your professor knows your name, then Cazenovia College is the place for you," states Bitz.
Bitz has met with members of the faculty during office hours and even over lunch. They are willing to talk about classes or just life in general. Professor Stewart Weisman notes, "Jake is a diligent student who takes his coursework seriously and is a pleasure to teach."
Choosing a major in criminal justice and homeland security studies was easy for Bitz, as he has always been interested in law enforcement. The College' program is highly respected, with some of his favorite classes including "Juvenile Delinquency," "Financing Terrorism," and "Ethical Issues in Criminal Justice." Applying classroom knowledge to real-life experiences is the hallmark of a Cazenovia College education, and Bitz plans on interning with the Memphis City Police Department in Tennessee over the upcoming summer.
